About the Artist Debbie Hessels

I love to paint all the perfect imperfections of nature! I can paint really fine details or very loose with fun brush strokes and everywhere in between.  I remember in elementary school winning every poster contest, then seeking out any art contest outside of school and began to get commissioned work before the age of 12!

I never questioned if I would pursue the arts, I lived in my high school art room, I took adult art classes after school when I was 16 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at a local Art College. (I studied under the well known Artist, Rudolph F. Zallinger who is most notable works include his mural The Age of Reptiles (1947) at Yale University's Peabody Museum of Natural History and I studied under the well known Artist, Tim O,Brien, President of the Society of Illustrators, NYC and has illustrated hundreds of book and magazine covers which include Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, GQ, Esquire, National Geographic and others.)

From there I dove into photography and made a nice career for 17 years. After putting down the camera, I became a Director of an Art Education facility in Raleigh, NC  that offered year-round art camps, art lessons, and events.

Now, I paint in my home studio, attend local Vendor Shows, take commissions of portraits, pets, homes and abstract as well as sell original and prints here and on Etsy.
